Leicester vs. Chelsea: Can the Premier League Champions get one over on their Title Chasing Rivals?

It’s Leicester against Chelsea this weekend at the King Power Stadium, and both sides will be wanting to get back to winning ways in the Premier League, so it could end up being an entertaining matchup. Champions Leicester are only sitting 6 points above the drop going into this game, so they will be wanting to give it their all to ensure their Premier League safety this weekend, and Chelsea will be wanting to put their disappointing defeat to local London rivals Tottenham to the back of their mind. Chelsea had the upper hand when these two teams met in October last year at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea will be looking for a repeat performance to ensure they walk away as winners and can get their title bid back on track. What can we expect to see from this game? We’ll have a look at some of the possibilities below.

Goals Galore?

Whether it’s going to be a game filled with goals remains to be seen, but as Chelsea have conceded 4 goals in their last two Premier League outings, Leicester will be looking at that and thinking they have a chance to score a couple of goals. With that though, Leicester have only scored 3 goals in their last 4 Premier League matches, and as Chelsea do not concede a lot of goals under normal circumstances, it could be a game that’s a little lacklustre. Chelsea have however scored 8 goals in their 3 previous games prior to losing 2-0 to Tottenham, so if they go into this game with the same attacking quality, then there’s no reason why they can’t take advantage of Leicester City’s confidence issues in front of goal.

Will Kante be the Main Man for Chelsea?

Kante left Leicester last season to join Chelsea and he has since been able to make Chelsea into title contenders from the get go, and he could be the first Premier League player to win back to back Premier League titles with two different clubs if Chelsea go on and win it this season. Kante will be out looking to prove a point against his former club, and Claudio Ranieri, who upset many bookmakers last year, will be completely aware of Kante’s ability to shine in Premier League fixtures just like this one.

What chances do Leicester City have of Premier League survival?

Leicester could easily be sucked into a relegation dog fight coming towards the end of the season, so they will need to pick up their game and start scoring some goals. Jamie Vardy hasn’t been the deadly force in front of goal he was last season, and Riyad Mahrez is also struggling to find form after a career defining season last time out. The loss of Kante to Chelsea has obviously been significant, and their confidence is low after being crowned champions last season. Whether Leicester are able to stay in the Premier League this season remains to be seen, but one of the benefits they currently have is that the three teams currently in the relegation zone do not look like they have enough in them to survive, but Leicester will want to make sure they get another 19 points in their next 18 games to give them the 40 points that seems to be enough for Premier League survival.

Chelsea will need to get back to winning ways in this game with Liverpool breathing down their necks, and the likes of Tottenham, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United are not out of the contest just yet. Will Chelsea be able to get on another winning run? Or will Leicester be able to stop them in their tracks? We’ll find out this weekend in what could be an entertaining game of football.

Chelsea’s 2016-2017 Season – The Story So Far

antonio conte

Chelsea entered the 2016-2017 English Premier League season looking to rebound from a very disappointing 2015-16 campaign, where they finished a tame 10th in the table.

They will participate in the FA Cup and League Cup, but with no action in any UEFA competition for the first time since the 1996–97 season, they could hugely benefit from having a fresher squad for the domestic cause. William Hill betting has Chelsea as the clear and red hot favourites to win the Premier League title now and the West Londoners will be very hard to stop.

Antonio Conte’s reign as Chelsea manager started off great with 3 wins from 3 games back in August using the same old trusted system Chelsea have used over the years. It was then, back in September, that they had a nightmare patch; drawing to Swansea away, then losing to Liverpool at home, followed by another loss at Arsenal.  It was half-way through the Arsenal game that Conte decided to shake the system and change to a 3-4-3 formation which continued against Hull City in the following fixture where they went on to dominate a strong 2-0 win lead by goals from Willian and Diego Costa.

This also gave a new lease of life for the loan ranger Victor Moses who was given the opportunity as right wing back where he has done nothing but excel in that position down that flank playing 14 games, scoring twice and assisting once and also contributing to 10 clean sheets in 13 games in a solid defence led by Tim Cahill, David Luiz, César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.

Chelsea’s run of fine form continued with a solid 3-0 win over Leicester City which condemned the defending champions to their fourth consecutive away defeat of the season.  The Blues then went on to welcome Jose Mourinho back to the bridge with a stunning 4-0 display over the Red Devils. Next up was an away trip the the new West Ham London Stadium in the League Cup, where Chelsea went on to lose, leaving them in just two competitions for the remainder of the season – the Premier League and FA Cup with plenty of rest time in between games.

They went on to bounce back in their next league game against Southampton winning 2-0 away from home. This was the month (October) that the Chelsea duo of Eden Hazard and Antonio Conte picked up awards ‘Player Of The Month’ and ‘Manager Of The Month’.

Chelsea then went on to win their next 9 Premier League games in a row keeping 6 clean sheets in that time. During that amazing run they collected 3 points on a visit to the Etihad going into half time chasing the game at 1-0 down. They went on to win the game 3-1 with goals from Costa, Willian and Hazard.

The league leader’s 13-game winning streak came to an end recently when they visited Tottenham on 4th January and lost 2-0 owing to an inspired Spurs display, quelling any hopes of breaking the longest winning streak record set by Arsenal in their glory days.

However, Chelsea remain firmly in the driving seat, a few points clear of Jurgen Klopp’s reformed Liverpool side sitting in 2nd place. Conte has clearly brought back a great mood to Chelsea where the team are enjoying their football which has reflected in this impressive season thus far.  This is a team fully equipped to go the distance.

Which championship teams will gain promotion?

Year after year, the Championship proves it’s one of the toughest competitions throughout the whole of Europe. Teams who get relegated from the top flight are not guaranteed automatic promotion; there have been previous times in the past where teams who got relegated from the Premier League were then relegated down into League 1. It’s a dog eat dog world in this league and that’s purely because of the prestigious awards at the end of the tunnel- the Premier League.

Automatic promotion

Currently, as it stands, we have two teams that will most definitely get automatic promotion- Newcastle sitting second, 6 points top of Reading who sit third and Brighton who are holding the top spot. The question is however, who will claim the title? Now this is a tough one because both Newcastle and Brighton keep yo-yoing  between each other since the start of the season- one minute Newcastle are top the next thing you know, its Brighton. At the moment, Brighton who are on 54 points hold a two point lead and a game in hand on Newcastle who are on 52 points respectively. So as it stands you will think Brighton have the advantage and should take this momentum towards the latter part of the season and win the league? Yes, it’s likely this could happen, but I still believe that Newcastle will go on and win the Championship title; I think they have the best squad in the league and have a formidable striker that is Dwight Gayle, who can’t seem to stop scoring the goals at the moment. For me I think it will be Newcastle top and Brighton coming in as runners up, nonetheless both should get automatic promotion.

Now this is more difficult to predict, I believe the teams currently in the playoff picture most likely will stay the same, however there are some talented clubs gunning behind them. Reading and Huddersfield are a dead cert in regards to cementing their place in the play offs, but I feel Huddersfield will leap frog Reading and finish 3rd and Reading finishing 4th. Leeds should have enough to stay in the middle of those four teams, it’s just a question of; can former runners up of the playoffs Sheffield Wednesday maintain there spot among the 4? If it were to end like this, then I think Huddersfield will end up winning the playoffs and gaining promotion to the Premier League.

Dark horses

birmingham city

Like previously mentioned above, there are a few teams trailing close behind in search for that promotion, my dark horses are Derby 7th (40 points), Fulham 10th (36 points) and Aston Villa 12th (35 points). I like the look of these three teams- especially Fulham and I wouldn’t be surprised if one them creep into the playoff picture. Villa are now looking good under Steve Bruce and are  now above their neighbours Birmingham, whilst Fulham have this rawness about their game and hold an impressive away record; Derby are inches behind Wednesday and contain a rather impressive squad

Premier League is Exciting as Ever

barclays premier league

The English Premier League is exciting as ever with this season promising to be more competitive than it ever has been. With so many different teams investing heavily in squads and the world’s best players this means that the games are as close as ever and the race for the title is highly entertaining.

arsenal fc

Arsenal fans are desperate to win the Premier League trophy once again, the last time was over 10 years year before they moved into their state-of-the-art stadium in north London. Arsene Wenger will undoubtedly go down in history as one of their best ever managers having won all major trophies in English football. However the fans are becoming increasingly concerned by the positions they finish each season. Winning the FA Cup alone is not satisfactory for the fans, they now want the Premier League. With players such as Alexis Sanchez and Ozil they do have the fire power to win the league, can they remain consistent enough and win the difficult away games in which in previous seasons have come up short.

In West London, Chelsea FC are always looking to win the League and challenge for major competitions, this season is no different. With a replacement manager in Italian Antonio Conte Chelsea have played surprisingly strong and powerful football so far this season. With players such as Edin Hazard and Diego Costa looking like different players under the manager they do have a good chance to win this season. With some difficult games over the Christmas period Chelsea will have to play well to be in contention after January.

jurgen klopp's liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has transformed this major club to now be one of the best football teams in the league. At the moment Liverpool are out scoring teams by 2/3 goals on a consistent basis. Can the German National do what he did with Borussia Dortmund and win the League against the odds? Liverpool fans are making enough noise and believe that this is their year to win the league, something that they haven’t won since over 20 years ago.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola immediately made a statement when he arrived in Manchester by putting Number 1 Goal Keeper Joe Hart on Transfer to Italian team Torino. Since then they have had mixed results but still find a way to remain extremely dangerous to any team. Whilst they did lose to FC Barcelona they repaid this by beating them several weeks later at the Etihad stadium. Manchester City unlike Liverpool and Manchester United are competing in the UEFA Champions League, this could surely hamper their race for the title? We doubt it but let us see in May. With some great games involving all these teams then we think for Manchester City v Liverpool odds then this website is number 1 choice.

Manchester United

Jose Mourinho invested in the world’s most expensive player Paul Pogba but results have also been mixed. If the Red Devils are ready to mount a serious charge on the league then they do need to put a consistent run of results together in the next 6 weeks to have any chance.

Whilst these are the teams we think have a serious chance to win the league remember last year when Leicester went on to shock the world and win. Whilst we don’t think anyone other than the above will win the Premier League is like no other league in the world.

The Power of the Manchester Clubs

Manchester United have always been the dominant club in Manchester, however are we seeing a shift in power both on and off the pitch.

Manchester City as a club over the past 5 seasons has been transformed into one of the biggest clubs financially and on the pitch in Europe. However it has to be noted that whilst having a great team and big bank account this cannot buy you fans.

This week Manchester City played in the Champions League, a game that should in theory be sold-out or at least 80% full. However the game was no near a sell out and even Pep Guardiola, a manager that has worked successfully with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, 2 of Europe’s most supported clubs has pleaded with fans to come to the games.

Manchester City Stadium Empty Seats

For anyone who lives in Manchester will tell you, Manchester United have most of the fans and are a bigger club, with this all the games at Old Trafford are virtually always sold out.

The only way Manchester City can get more fans is by consistently winning cups and the Premier League for the next 10-15 years. It is already noticeable that Manchester City are getting younger fans which will be great for the future but not for the present.

The owners of the club have to be commended by the way they have transformed the club and the area around the stadium. This project is obviously not about the finances for the owners, otherwise they would have chose a club with a greater fan-base, they are definitely in it for the long-haul.

The power of both Manchester clubs is clear to see, they have arguably the two best managers in the world in Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola and some of the best players in the world in Kevin de Bruyne and Paul Pogba respectably. Financially they can both compete against FC Barcelona and Real Madrid so in the next 5-10 years expect to see a shift in where the European Champions will be from. Can Manchester take over as the football capital of the world, we fully expect so.

Match Update

Manchester United Striker Marcus Rashford made his U21 debut by scoring a hat-trick in this game. The on-form strike was in the England squad for the Euro 2016 Championships but has moved to the U21 to get more experience and playing time.
England manager Sam Alladyce was in the stadium to watch the Mancunian score 3 different types of goals including a penalty kick.

The Manchester Derby is this weekend and will be one of the biggest games so far in the Premier League season.

Swedish Influence on the Premier League

With the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester, many Swedish fans are now following the Premier League. The Number 9 Striker is one of the most high profile people in Sweden having arrived at Old Trafford with a fierce reputation. Having played for FC Barcelona, Ajax, Milan and PSG the Swedish International is used to being in the spotlight and has started his Manchester United career already scoring in the first 2 games of the Premier League.

zlatan Manchester United

Which other Swedish players have made an influence on the Premier League, well we at e-Soccer.com have created a list to discuss these players.

Henrik Larsson

Similar to Zlatan, Henrik Larsson played in several different high profile teams, both of whom played for FC Barcelona and eventually Manchester United. Whilst he only played in the league for 1 year, his influence was enormous.

Henrik will always be known as a Glasgow Celtic Legend but he definitely made an impact in the Premier League even though he only actually scored 3 goals. Whilst he only made 7 appearances on Loan in England’s top flight he will go down in history for his positive impact on the team.

Larrson’s first goal for Manchester United came in the FA Cup game against Aston Vill at Old Trafford.

Fredrick Ljundberg

Part of the Invincible Arsenal team which went unbeaten for 49 games, Ljundberg will go down in Arsenal history and is still a fans favourite. The ex Swedish International played over 10 years in the Premier League, finally ending up with West Ham and having scored over 70 times in 241 appearances. During the 2001-2002 season Ljundberg was arguably the best player for Arsenal’s double winning team, even scoring in the win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Playing in the same team as Henry, Overmars, Viera, Petit, Bergkamp and Adams, Fredrick or Freddie as he was called by the fans has probably made the biggest impact in the Premier League by any Swedish football player.

See his Top 5 goals below.

Sweden has produced some fantastic players and the International team is always competitive reach most World Cups and European Championships. If you would like to enjoy playing poker then this casino website is a great place to start.

Olof Mellberg

This might be a surprise but Mellberg played for 7 years in the Premier League for Aston Villa in which he was the captain. The Swedish International player was voted the best player for his country in 2003 and also played for Juventus and Villarreal in his career. Whilst playing for Aston Villa he also became a fan favourite making a huge impact with his great defensive displays. Zlatan has labelled Mellberg as the ‘best Swedish defender of all time’.

Pogba Set to Break Transfer Record

France International Paul Pogba is set to break the world record when he joins Manchester United officially this week. The price tag is expected to be over 100 million euros and overpasses Real Madrid striker Gareth Bale’s fee of 85,000,000 price tag when he moved from Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United expect to officially announce this long transfer saga within the next 48 hours and is already having a United Medical. Pogba famously left Manchester United on a free transfer only 4 years ago and headed to Italy where he starred for Juventus winning several trophies. The reason Manchester United let him leave is still a mystery but it was ultimately down to Alex Ferguson, the then Manager of the team.

pogba juventus

Having been the best player in Italy for 2 seasons as well as excellent performances in the France shirt has meant the price tag is beyond all previous football transfers.

Will he shine for Jose Mourinho’s team this season or will he under perform, critics believe that he doesn’t perform in the big games. Will he justify the biggest price tag in the world or will United regret the signing. Whilst his price tag is extreme, only a handful can doubt his ability.

Manchester United have purchased Zlatan Ibrahimović and Baily in this transfer window and are likely to be involved in more business when this closes in 3 weeks.
